Las Vegas Weather in October: Essential Climate Guide
Introduction
October is a busy month in Las Vegas, partly due to the cooling temperatures but also sports, events, and conventions. The temperatures this month are subject to wild swings. Summer may try and give it one more go, or winter may make its first appearance. Rain is not a big deal being tied for 4th driest but it’s possible to still get some either from leftover monsoon activity or one of the first Pacific winter storms. In this post I will detail what to expect when you visit Las Vegas in October.
Be sure to see how I ranked this month for best month to visit at the end!

Temperatures
You never quite know what you’re going to get in October in Vegas. It can still be hot, exceeding 90F/32C some days. On average though the last 90F/32C day happens by the 10th. On the flip side, the first day where the high doesn’t get over 70F/21C happens by the 19th. Six times is has even got to 100F/38C or more, and 29 times it has failed to get out of the 50s. Very dynamic! Normal highs start the month at 88F/31C and drop to 75F/24C by the end of the month. At night temperatures really drop off and long-sleeves or jackets become necessary. Six times the low temperature has even dropped below freezing in October, but that hasn’t happened since 1971. Doubtful it will happen again anytime soon.
I find the best way to get a feel for the weather is by looking at what happened in a previous year. Here is the latest actual October temperatures (2023).
October 2023 was the optiomy of changeable with 10 days over 90F/32C and two days stuck in the 60s. But I wouldn’t call many of these days uncomfortable. You just have be prepared for both heat and cold.
Rainfall
Tropical activity in the eastern Pacific off of Mexico starts to wane in October and the monsoon usually has come to an end. Pacific storms can begin to move into the region from the west. It’s not unheard of to get rain in October but it is tied for 4th driest. Only 2 days of rain occur during the month but as many as 8 days were recorded in 1946. Only 10 times has there been a day with more than 0.50”.
What To Pack
Because of the changeable nature of the temperatures in October you’ll need to pack for hot and cold weather. Bring some light weight, loose fitting clothing for hot afternoon. But also bring a long-sleeve or light jacket for chilly days or nights.
Be sure to keep sun protection handy at all times because the sun is still strong. Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen are still important in October - especially if you will be at the pool.
Reusable water bottle
You can probably leave the umbrella at home this month.
Comfortable shoes are a must. Las Vegas involves a lot of walking, especially along the Strip. Comfortable shoes are essential to prevent getting tired and blisters.
Swimwear is necessary if you plan to take a dip.
Don’t Forget These Other Things:
A portable charger. I know from experience if you forget one it’s gonna cost you an exorbitant amount to replace it if you have to buy it on the Strip.
Remember to pack your necessary medications as well as personal care items like toiletries, hand sanitizer, and lip balm.
Don't forget to bring your ID, credit cards, travel insurance information, and any other essential documents you may need for your trip. Seems obvious but I’ve done it.
Sunrise/Sunset
Sunrise on October 1st starts at 6:36 AM. By the end of the month the sunrise is 7:03 AM. Sunset at the beginning of the month is 6:23 PM and by the end is 5:44 PM. There are about 11 hours of daylight each day. Remember, Las Vegas is in the Pacific Time Zone - same as Los Angeles.
Safety Tips
Stay hydrated: While not as hot - it’s still very dry! Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, even if it’s a little cool. And remember alcohol adds to dehydration.
Lightweight Clothing: During the daytime you may still need lightweight and breathable clothing. Opt for materials like cotton or linen, which allow air circulation and help you stay cool.
Protect against sun exposure: The sun is intense even in October. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to shield yourself from harmful UV rays, especially if you’re hiking or golfing.
Know Your Limits: If you’re prone to problems with heat, try to stay in the shade or indoors as much as you can on the remaining hot days.
Keep in mind it can still be very warm and you should bring extra water if you’re doing outdoor activities like hiking or golfing.

Conclusion
October is a great month to visit Las Vegas but remember it can be pretty busy. You’ll need to be prepared for all kinds of temperatures. October has more swings than Cirque du Soleil! If you get there in the first part of the month you will likely catch pools still open. By the end of the month you’ll need to bring your jacket or long-sleeve. But overall this is a pretty nice time to enjoy the city. I took the rank down slightly for crowds and such changeable weather.
